Accurate Flat Panel Display Conoscope Lens

The flat panel display (FPD) conoscope lens from Radiant Vision Systems facilitates high-resolution photopic measurement of the angular distribution of luminance, color, and contrast for displays and display parts.

Radiant Vision Systems employs Fourier optics to map an emitting spot to an image sensor so that each pixel relates to a different emission angle. The conoscope lens records a complete cone of view angle data in a single measurement to ±70°. This offers fast, precise results, rendering the system ideal for both in-line production quality control and R&D projects. The lens is compatible with a broad range of FPD types such as those based on OLED and LCD technologies, and also with backlights.

High-Resolution Angular Measurement

The conoscope lens offers an angular resolution of 0.05° per image sensor pixel. Combined with the ProMetric^® Y Photometer orI Colorimeter,the conoscope lens can measure radiance, CIE chromaticity coordinates, luminance, angular contrast, and correlated color temperature (CCT) with a high level of accuracy at each view angle.

Seamless Evaluation from R&D to Production Lines

The FPD conoscope lens concurrently achieves view angle measurements to ±70°. Engineered to be placed directly on a ProMetric camera, the camera and lens combination can be bought for a fraction of the cost of other solutions, and come with hardware with reduced size and less complexity than standard goniometric measurement systems for R&D applications.

Due to its speed and small form factor, the FPD conoscope lens solution is also perfect for in-line analysis of displays throughout the production phase. It offers real-time pass/reject operations according to display view angle performance data, removing substandard quality components from the line, and detecting quality trends before there is a substantial loss of materials.

Radiant Vision Systems’ cameras with the FPD conoscope lens accessory can be employed in R&D as well as production settings. They capture matching measurements of view angle data for continuous evaluation of displays, during the course of a complete product lifecycle, from preliminary characterization to quality control.

Mount to ProMetric Photometers and Colorimeters

The FPD conoscope lens can be placed directly on a ProMetric Y Imaging Photometer or ProMetric I Imaging Colorimeter with the help of a custom bracket. By positioning the lens directly on a ProMetric imaging colorimeter or photometer provides the most efficient means of determining view angle performance using a compact, turnkey camera solution that needs minimal equipment, setup and integration time, or expertise.

As part of the ProMetric series of imaging photometers and colorimeters, the FPD conoscope lens and ProMetric camera solution is also provided with ProMetric Software. The ProMetric Software is a robust software suite that takes care of data acquisition, equipment control, and image analysis.

The software allows intuitive camera arrangement and adjustable measurement parameters, and supports wide-ranging data analysis and display operations, including bitmaps, isometric plots, radar plots, cross-section graphs, and CIE color plots.
