TA Instruments’ DIL805A/D is an exclusive dilatometer designed for measuring the deformation parameter and for creating continuous cooling, TTT-, and DTTT- diagrams.
The DIL805A for quenching is capable of high heating rates of up to 4000°C/s and cooling rates of 2500°C/s. The DIL805A is used for observation of dimensional changes under severe conditions of controlled heating and cooling. The DIL805D for deformation is designed for deformation rates of 0.01 to 125mm/s.
Text experiments are adaptable and can be assembled to copy a lengthy or complex process. Many steps can be assembled and sequenced with limited pause of 60ms between the next steps.
A solid sample is inductively heated to a temperature plateau and then continuously cooled with exponential or linear rates. Phase transformation occurs in the continuous cooling technique or in the isothermal plateau and is revealed by the measured change of length. The cooling curves denote a continuous or an isothermal time-temperature- transformation (TTT) diagram. The start and end of the transformation signify alloy phase boundaries e.g. pearlite, martensite, graphite, ferrite, bainite, carbide, or other eutectoid phase batches.
