Emergent is a new kind of electricity company founded by entrepreneur Reg Platt with a mission to accelerate the decarbonization of homes. Housing companies need a cheaper, easier solution to deliver their net zero objectives, particularly given the incoming ban on gas boilers in new homes and stricter environmental performance standards for all homes.

The planning, delivery and operation of microgrids that work efficiently, even in small developments, is highly complex and requires expertise in electricity networks, electricity distribution, electricity purchasing, electrical hardware operation, big data analytics, prediction software and of course customer service. It also needs someone who can navigate the complexities of energy regulation and work with the government and Ofgem as the market, and rules that govern it, evolve. Most importantly though, it needs someone who can provide a mutually beneficial commercial offer where all parties can benefit together.

The 25% saving figure has been determined by calculating the Net Present Value (NPV) of income payments Emergent project to make for a typical housing estate or block of flats where heat pumps and solar PV are installed. It is based on analysis by Emergent of existing demonstrator sites, and various new build and existing developments that are being considered for the solution by a number of developers.
