Soil moisture and temperature can be measured by the SM150Twith research-grade precision. It delivers reliable, robust and stable performance at a great price.

A Research Grade Sensor

The SM150T features advanced patented electronics and tough build in order to produce a highly reliable sensor with outstanding salinity and temperature stability. It is designed to withstand long term burial because the sensor, connectors and cable are environmentally protected to IP68.

The SM150T provides moisture accuracy of ± 3% (following soil specific calibration) and the integrated temperature sensor achieves ± 0.5 °C accuracy.

Data Logging and Readout

A dual purpose probe, the SM150T is portable for instant moisture readings, or can be left installed in the soil connected to a data logger in order to provide long-term moisture and temperature data.

For installed sensors:

The new SM150T can be logged by Delta-T Devices’ data logger and by many loggers from other manufacturers (simple 10 K thermistor for temperature and 0-1 V output for moisture). In order to record temperature, the sensor should be fully buried and connected to a data logger.

For portable applications

The SM150T is provided as part of the convenient SM150 Kit, complete with HH150 readout meter and carry case.

Please note that the HH150 Meter provided with the SM150 Kit is a readout-only device. The SM150T must be used with the HH2 Moisture Meter if PC connectivity is required for data storage and download.

NB: When the SM150T is used in portable mode, temperature indication is not provided.

Installation

The SM150T’s sharp pins reduces soil disturbance and preserves the original soil structure around the measurement rods, making it easy to insert and install. For burial at depth, the cylindrical shape makes the installation possible in augered holes. The sensor’s threaded base can be connected to optional 50 cm and 100 cm extension tubes that aid placement and removal.

The SM150Tuses the similar high-quality range of cables and extensions as the EQ3 and ML3 sensors.

Calibration

The SM150T is supplied with general calibrations for organic and mineral soils. If required, a two-point soil specific calibration can be carried out for greater accuracy.

Applications

Soil science: The SM150T is easy to install and delivers accurate measurement of soil moisture and temperature; simplifying the vertical profiling of both parameters. (Temperature measurement needs the probe to be buried).

Irrigation: The ruggedness and accuracy of the SM150T makes it a natural option for system integrators. More information is available in a separate SM150T System Integrator Data Sheet.

Horticulture: The SM150T, with a length of only 143 mm (rods 51 mm), can be installed in plant pots and grow-bags. A simple, rugged solution to check uniformity of growing conditions across many types of growing media is provided by the SM150 kit for portable use.
