SilMach is a MEMS company which is pioneer in the field of silicon-based micromechanics. SilMach SA has a world-wide reputation for its advanced research dedicated to MEMS-based bionic systems.
SilMach investigations in such a research field deals with “Libellule”, a flying robot the size of a dragonfly. The artificial insect is developed within an exploratory research program of DGA. The robot integrates a flapping wing propulsion system that involves a few hundred thousands of silicon based nanomuscles. The overall mass of the flapping wing propulsion system is 20 milligrams. “Libellule” will integrates MEMS-based batteries on the near term. The overall mass of the flying robot including mechanical parts, batteries, sensors, navigation system and computers will not exceed 120 mg, the weight of its biological model. First generation MEMS-based flapping wing propulsion system.
