MassaSonic® SonAire® Series M3 and M3is Sensors are battery operated wireless level sensors that intercommunicate using ZigBee RF Modules. The M3is versions are intrinsically safe rated for CIDI, zone Ø and CID2 environments. These sensors have detection ranges from 4" (100 mm) to 35' (10.7m).
The sensors use modern ultrasonic technology to provide precision non-contact distance measurement for liquid level solid stockpiles or remote locations and hazard zones. Compared to other systems, the M3 sensors are considered to excel due to their effortless operation, affordability, and ability to be installed and calibrated without the need for a target.
The sensors pass on narrow beam sound pulses, report the distance to the target, and process return echoes. Kynar (PVDF) is the sensor housing material that is used to provide the ultimate in chemical resistance existing in extremely rough industrial environments. The short range version is ideal for small tanks, totes, horizontal tanks and tallow pond monitoring.

The RoHS compliant SonAire Sensors® measure and store information such as battery voltage, temperature, range, and various other parameters at user-set time intervals. The sensor is commissioned onto the ZigBee network using an internal pushbutton, and the operating mode is identified with the help of an LED.
The package is rated for both immersion and high pressure washing in agreement with IP67. The batteries employed are widely used lithium AA type and can be easily replaced. Typical battery life is 4 years.
All sensors in the SonAire® Series are available in two variants. Standard SonAire M3 Sensors are custom designed such that they are ideal for operation in typical industrial applications. Intrinsically safe SonAire M3is Sensors can also be used in unsafe environments. SonAire M3is Sensors are certified by Factory Mutual as meeting the demands of Class 1 Div 1 (C1D1), All Groups, which is the highest rating.
