The photosensor identifies the reflected laser LED light through atmospheric dust particles, such as particles measuring less than PM2.5 in size. The dust sensor can identify minute particles, like cigarette smoke, and even distinguish tiny particles, like smoke arising from large house dust, through the pulse pattern of the signal output.
