3D Time-of-Flight Image Sensors

In the day-to-day life, measurement tools to ensure social distance, touchless operation of machinery for hygiene management, and labor-saving autonomous robots, are becoming more prevalent.

Currently, distance sensors have a highly important role as a crucial enabling component in developing such technologies. Distance image sensors utilize an indirect time-of-flight (TOF) method to quantify the distance to an object per pixel.

Hamamatsu Photonics has launched a new series of 3D TOF back-thinned image sensors to fulfill the requirements of these applications. These new sensors use back-thinning to offer high sensitivity in the near-infrared region.

A built-in active circuitry enhances the tolerance to background light,rendering the new series of distance sensors perfect for measurement applications such as remote operations, hygiene management, and measurement for social distancing. The sensors also come in a compact wafer-level package.
