Stable, well-matched microphone arrays are important for high-quality far-field voice interfaces. From smart speakers (which use up to eight MEMS microphones) through to smartphones, smart home automation systems, smart earbuds, and diverse IoT products, demand for microphone arrays is rising quickly.
Microphone arrays utilizing capacitive MEMS microphones are prone to failure and degrade over time, despite their growing adoption. When even one array microphone drifts, either after field deployment or during system manufacture, the whole microphone array will fail and lose its directional beamforming ability. Luckily, Vesper provides a solution. The VM2000 is a piezoelectric MEMS microphone that is natively immune to environmental contaminants like oil, dust, humidity, water, and particulate matter. This means it is extremely stable, so microphone arrays will always stay in sync, confirming consistent beamforming performance of the array, regardless of the environment.
Furthermore, only Vesper microphones are immune to stiction, which results in complete voice-interface failure. As a pure differential microphone, the VM2000 also provides dynamic range and outstanding RF protection. This is particularly important when the array is near a speaker.
